i followed a string from some image on some random set somewhere years ago and triangulated it with bakshi and faust wiki's early last week and came up with phantom of the paradise, 1974.
its about a man that signs a contract to finish a cantata he's writing for a record mogul to use in the opening of his disneylandesque rock-palace called The Paradise, only to have his music stolen, teeth replaced, voice taken and face horribly burned; then to be imprisoned in a sound booth, attached to tubes and wires, to finish writing the cantata for his misled love, and muse, to sing.
So yesterday my friend Janelle brought me to this rad dollar book store. The sections were set up as little closet-sized fortholes denting the walls in about 4 feet deep.
There was a comics nook, with LOTS of independent comics and random older stuff, it was fucking awesome, gotta go back to give it a proper dig, but i picked these up this time, mostly because they tickled my eyes' fancy.
Watched Fritz the Cat last night, Ralph Bakshi's first feature length animated movie, based on Robert Crumb's 'Fritz the Cat' comic. It was released in 72' and was the first animated film to receive an 'X' rating in the U.S., mainly due to sex, drugs, violence and a general anti-establishment mentality.
The animation and voice acting is fucking great, especially for a lower budget independent film, and it was really cool checking out all the little creative, interesting animation techniques throughout.
i havent really sat down to draw for almost 3 weeks, since new water finished. i like to take little vacations after bigger things are done, but then it gets to be too long and i gotta get that shit going again. my brains a little mushtastic right now since this weeks sleep is nonexistant, but i think from now on mondays will be days for posting drawings and things, since im trying to stick with a new schedule of doing it every single day.
heres some from over the last few days, you can see how rusty i got with only a small break.
