the wild and wonderful whites of west virginia
just watched this gem of a documentary about a giant family in west virginias coal mining country, called the whites.
its like a mix of gummo and cops and jackass, backed with a fucked up history lesson about not only a large portion of the white family, but the entire area of west virginia and its soul-crushing coal mining industry.
america at its finest.

gotye and kimbra
i may be a little late to the party, but the first song i heard by these two crushed my soul in a strangely beautiful way, so i swept them under the rug and out of view until i could deal with them.
today the rug was pulled up from under me a bit, and theyve quite a lasting impression.
both remind me of someone amazing.

its not about sex, thats just a part of it. its about being comfortable enough with another person to allow yourself to feel things and to be close and soft and trusting and vulnerable, even though it has the possibility of hurting at some point, thats the peak of human experience, if we dont have that we dont have anything.

izombie
written by chris roberson
drawn by michael allred
colors by laura allred
goodness, lips and eyes. its like a hannabarbera cartoon modernized(like madman), how the allreds havent gotten an animated show/feature deal maddens me.
michael allred has got to draw the most beautiful women in the industry(and even men, quite honestly), and somehow, laura allred makes them even more pleasing with her magic eye for color.
i also like that the main characters of both madman and izombie are a nonhuman color(madmans an offslate-grey, while gwens a beautiful pale purple), while most everyone else seems to hold on to actual fleshtones.
i like it.

Dawn: Lucifers Halo
by Joseph Michael Linsner
"I will love you like none other, for i have died a thousand tiny deaths, and every time i died i thought of you."
dawn is the goddess of birth and rebirth. she is sent by god to retrieve the devils halo, a gift from eons ago that he no longer deserves. he was given a kingdom of hell for his sabotage, and that was enough. she receives the halo, but instead returns to earth and gives it to darrian ashoka, a human warrior in an apocalyptic new york. unknown to darrian, he is the incarnation of death, dawns lover. he treks to and from life and death battling through heavens knights, hells demons and himself, on a quest to find who and where he is.
brutal, deep stuff this, and all 200+ pages are beautifully painted.
